Alan Shearer Is Bluffing and Newcastle United Look Doomed

The bullshit parade of Alan Shearer rolls on. After another abject performance - under the 47th Newcastle manager this season against Portsmouth tonight - the Toon Army edged closer to the drop.

In his fourth game in charge, Newcastle picked up only their second point under the newest manager. Contacted in for a £100k a game with a bonus of £1million if they stay up, Alan Shearer looks to be the smartest man in football.

Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic's partnership is about to resume full service, and that can only mean one thing. The title is heading back to Manchester this year.

A phenomenal second half comeback saw Manchester United return from the dead. Losing 2-0 at half-time, the Red Devils hammered in five goals against Tottenham Hotspur in the space of 23 minutes to seal a win which tightens their grip on the Premiership.

Wenger Outwits Benitez in Arsenal's 4-4 Draw with Liverpool at Anfield

Liverpool and Arsenal served up another Premiership goal-fest tonight after another exhilarating 4-4 draw at Anfield. Andrei Arshavin scored four for Arsenal, and in doing so became the first opposing player in 60 years to complete the feat.

Fernando Torres and Yossi Benayoun both scored twice each as Liverpool's title challenge falters on the final straight...

The Premier League Opens Its Doors to Mick McCarthy's Wolves

Wolves secured promotion to the Premier League yesterday after beating QPR 1-0 thanks to a goal by Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, the club's top scorer this season, who bagged his 25th goal of the campaign.

After missing the previous three games through injury, Ebanks-Blake struck just after half-time to send the Molineaux faithful in the South Bank into rapture, and in doing so Wolves have gained top-flight status for the first time since 2004.

Wenger Outwits Himself in Arsenal's 2-1 Defeat to Chelsea's Dutch Master

A curious team selection by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger handed the FA Cup semifinal to Chelsea on Saturday as the Pensioners had to come from a goal down to win the game 2-1. In reality they dominated the game from start to finish.

Didier Drogba's 84th minute goal along with Florent Malouda's equalizer on the stroke of half-time proved enough to overcome a young Arsenal team.

The Fast and the Furious: The Fastest Goals in Football

There have been many column inches dedicated to Cristiano Ronaldo's wonder goal against Porto in the UEFA Champions League. A goal of such breathtaking beauty that it left even the most experienced of journalists scrambling for words to describe the strike.

At 65mph, the ball left Ronaldo's foot like an exocet missile and shook the back of the net while the 'keeper just looked on like a spectator. Everyone was in agreement that it was a special goal, especially Ronaldo.

But was it one of the fastest goals ever scored?

PFA Player Of The Year Shortlist Disgrace: No Lampard? No Alonso?

The nominees for this season's PFA award were announced today and, much to my surprise, there is only one non-Manchester United player on the list: Steven Gerrard.

No doubt about it, he has had a great season and is deservedly there, but his fellow nominees leave a lot to be desired, to be honest.

I mean, who compiles these lists?

Chelsea 4-4 Liverpool (7-5 Agg): Heroic 'Pool Undone at The Death

Liverpool and Chelsea played out a 4-4 draw (7-5 on aggregate), in one of the most entertaining second leg UEFA Champions League Cup ties of all time tonight. The heroic Anfield side pushed their title rivals all the way in what was quite simply an incredible match.

Spurs On The Verge Of Europe As Harry Redknapp Works His Magic

Saying that this season at White Hart Lane has been a roller coaster would be a bit of an understatement.

Consecutive top five finishes, followed by a League Cup win, preceded the club's worst start to a season since 1912, leaving Spurs rooted to the bottom of the table in October.

Harry Redknapp was brought in to steady the ship and avoid relegation, and slowly but surely Spurs moved away from the mire. Unbelievably, Spurs are now actually on the verge of European qualification (if results still go their way)...

Religious Groups Want Sport-Free Easter Sundays: Right or Wrong?

Christian-based religious groups in Britain have launched a campaign to try and urge the Government into using Sunday trading laws to prevent sporting fixtures from being on Easter Sunday in the future.
"We feel that Church-founded football clubs should remember their Christian roots," said the Archbishop of York, John Sentamu.

Rafa's Bluff Backfires As Liverpool Draw In Lyon

A last minute equalizer by Lisandro Lopez has left Liverpool's Champions League qualification hanging in the balance as they wait on results in other matches to see if they will progress. A Ryan Babel screamer sent the travelling Reds fans delirious as they snatched a late lead before succumbing to the late knock out blow that sees Lyon through to the next phase.

All eyes were on Liverpool in the run up to the crucial tie. Many ex-Liverpool legends had heavily criticized Rafael Benitez following Saturday's defeat to Fulham, feeling that he was hinging the entire season on the next match against Lyon, and upon winning the Champions League.

Barcelona: Dominant, Devastating and Delightful

Barcelona have delighted those who have had the pleasure of watching them this season. Their beautiful, free-flowing style has captivated fans across the planet and it is not without some merit that they are now being compared to the great Ajax and Bayern Munich teams of the '70s and the AC Milan side of the late '80s.

With seven games to go, the Premier League title chase hangs on a knife edge. Liverpool and Manchester United are still neck and neck after battling it out with each other since August, with Chelsea still breathing down their necks lest someone capitulate in the final straight.

A headed double from Branislav Ivanovic and a poacher's finish, after a superb team move by Didier Drogba, put Liverpool to the sword at Anfield tonight, as Chelsea came from one down to stun Liverpool with a 3-1 victory. The result means the Pensioners are now firm favorites to meet Barcelona in the semifinals of the Champions League...

Anything Liverpool Can Do, Manchester United Can Do Better

17-year-old Federico Macheda scored a sensational injury-time goal on his debut to give all three points to Manchester United and return them to the summit of the Premier League.

As the game moved into its dying seconds, the teenager collected a pass from Michael Carrick and turned brilliantly before he dispatched the ball into the far post across the flailing arms of Brad Friedel, and gifted the Red Devils a win when a draw looked most likely.

Liverpool beat Fulham at Craven Cottage yesterday, thanks to a 92nd minute strike from Yossi Benayoun, which put the Anfield side on top of the table for 24 hours at least. Their manager, Rafael Benitez, said that all the pressure was now on United, they had to do something special to stop them from plummeting further from the nosedive they were in...

Adel Taarabt Declares for Morocco Over France, Spurs Win Either Way

Adel Taarabt says a need to play first-team football has helped him decide to play for Morocco over France and join QPR on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 19-year-old midfielder has pledged his international future to Morocco over France, whom he played for at U-17, U-18, and U-19 level. And has since played three games for the Atlas Lions...

Liverpool Pressure United, Arsenal Roll On, Newcastle Look Down

Week 31 of the season saw Alan Shearer, with tongue firmly in cheek, leed Newcastle out for the first time yesterday, where they met a Chelsea team in no mood to extend the former-striker's welcoming party...
